This tree has evolved and changed many times, growing and changing the way trees do as the seasons come and go. My intention is for this radiant tree to invite the viewer to shine their light as it does and share their talents with the world.

This is a painting that evokes a sense of magic for me. Birds are my symbol and seem to somehow always find a way into my paintings. This one features birds not as we would typically find in nature, or in a landscape setting, but in a totally different location or dimension. Almost as though they are emerging through a portal, as the center one shows us. Maybe even on another planet.
Let your imagination lead you there!

Dragons invite us to embrace the magical and mighty parts of ourselves. To breathe the fire of living with passion and enthusiasm. This painting explores a sense of experiencing a new birth and reclaiming one’s power. Even though it can seem like a messy process; a time of shifting energies and sifting through old beliefs and habits, the joy experienced as a result is definitely well worth the effort.

This painting began as a warm up activity, where I wanted to allow myself the freedom to paint as a child. My child Amanda was my inspiration. As I watched her play with paints in my studio, I decided I wanted to splash the paint on confidently, as she does. To explore without worrying about outcome. I did just that, enjoying the process, turning the canvas upside down, left and right. I was feeling the sheer joy of mixing colours, and playing with placement of my marks, when to my surprise I turned the canvas and discovered a bird flying in the midst of it all!
If I was and animal what would I be? I would be a bird of course! I felt like I painted my spirit right into the painting!

This painting is all about waiting patiently, quietly. There are times in our lives when we need to rest, rejuvenate and allow ourselves to just be. Swans evoke the thought of beauty yet also a sense of processing inwardly prior to emerging into our true selves our true magnificence.

This painting emerged as the second one in a series as I was having a wonderful time painting in my cousin’s garden. I decided to paint how the trees made me feel. As you can see I had fun playing with the paints. I love trees. Each one is a work of art. I love how branches twist and turn, how leaves change colour. All of it!

Fear is the Prison...is a painting that depicts a realization that I had about Fear as I was painting it. A quote emerged- "Fear is the prison where the door stands wide open and there is no need for a guard." Why? Because Fear stops us from truly living. We stand there, rooted on the spot, looking at the wide open doorway, looking at a magical world of opportunities before us, so afraid that we do nothing. This painting invites the viewer to free themselves of Fear and walk into that magical world we call life, and embrace the joy that can be found in truly living.

Somehow I paint, and birds seem to find a way into many of my paintings!
This eagle is ready to soar into the clouds! I explored the use of my textures using several mediums and techniques and enjoyed the process of setting him free.

This painting is the story of an under painting that declared itself the painting. I started to notice images as the paint pooled around the glass bead gel, and the coarse molding paste I’d applied. Like a message from the subconscious mind, a wounded soul appears whose eye is hidden; the eye area covered up. Upon further observance, the viewer discovers a child in the lower portion of the painting, holding a lantern and pointing to the area where the eye is missing. Obviously this "inner child" wants us to know, to notice. Then as the viewer gazes further...a tiny bird sits at the woman's mouth. Interesting as the artist identifies herself with birds. A sign of wanting to be heard as well. I decided to honour these images and subtly attempted to bring them out for the viewer to notice. Much to ponder in the journey of the soul...

A fall scene depicting that even a soft light can entice the viewer to explore the paths we might not notice during the daylight hours. I love fall with all of its glorious colors.

Exploring what my paints can do is kind of like what exploring the ocean depths might feel like. It almost feels like these fish are playing a game of "Hide and Seek".
This painting is in many ways a tribute to the art student who started my art classes. Rayden is a very creative girl, who paints boldly with much passion. She created "magic" in my life as she started me on a journey that has brought me much joy. I love to encourage and empower my students. As the school year ended I decided to paint each student a painting as a gift. Each student selected their subject matter. Rayden struggled to figure out her choice. I poured paints and suddenly we saw unicorns and alicorns appear. Dragons are her favourite magical creature, so it was a pleasure to include one in this piece for her.

I love dragonflies! This summer there were a couple of weeks where they kept landing on me and members of my family. It feels magical to me when they do. One day my daughter Amanda had dragonflies land on her five times! I have read that they are a symbol of good luck on its way.

How many birds do you see? You might be surprised at the ones you find. The more I look at it the more I see! So far my count is 9. This was a fun exploration in textures and visual discoveries. Birds are very much a part of who I am. They seem to show up in my paintings all on their own.

This painting emerged as I was having a wonderful time painting in my cousin’s garden. I decided to paint how the trees made me feel. As you can see I had fun playing with the paints. I used negative painting to create the background of the sky. I love trees. Each one is a work of art. I love how branches twist and turn, how leaves change colour. All of it!

One lovely spring day, I enjoyed being outside with my paints. My cat was there, waiting patiently and keeping me company. So I decided to paint her. I noticed a reason a cat might wait patiently as they carefully wait and watch stalking their prey. A little red bird declared itself part of this painting, all on its own.
This painting won 2nd place in the Intermediate Category at the Allied Art Council Open Art Competition. Unfortunately it was stolen from an Art Show at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton.
